Lisa McClure's China Diary

December 16, 1998

After months of excuses and dawdling, I have accepted a job teaching computer courses at Liaoning Institute of Technology in Jinzhou, Lioaning province, China.

I found this job advertised on a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) e-mail list that I was subscribed to, and I submitted my resume and supporting documents via e-mail in early November. During Thanksgiving week, I received a very welcome e-mail message from my contact at the Institute telling me that I had been hired!

I have ordered our airplane tickets already. We got a great deal on them, from Would you believe that the one way fare for the both of us is $572! We'll be leaving Colorado around February 15th, then will drive with my folks from Arizona to Los Angeles. Our flight is China Eastern #584 from Los Angeles to Beijing on February 24, 1999.

We'll be met at the Beijing airport, and escorted to Jinzhou. Thank goodness for that! I don't know how I'd be able to handle all our luggage and Lara as well!
